kindergarten birthday

Today we celebrated Frida Viola's birthday with her kindergarten. It was the first time they all came home to us, and we were all quite exicted about it. Frida Viola woke up very early this morning, and we decorated her raspberry cake together. The medals are some A and I did very late last night - the queen's false teeth were lost (stolen by Tommy Toothless!) and the kids had to help her find them again. It was a nice and fun day (and Frida Viola was thrilled about the pink hairband she had from one of her little friends).

Signe Kjær

Last week it was A's birthday. We did celebrate him a little but not far as much as I would have liked since our days have been quite filled up lately. He did have some gifts though - and even some quite good ones :)
Frida Viola helped me choose one of Signe Kjær's beautiful little paintings for him. She picked out the girl you see above - and it's really such a fine little work that we are all so happy with. Signe Kjær makes wonderful, poetic, fine and delicate illustrations and works and I am looking so much forward to follow her and see more.

Once the package with the girl had arrived Frida Viola also wanted to paint some girls so that A had 3 girls for his birthday - one for each of us. She did the two below. Needless to say that he was very happy.

à bientôt

See you soon, beautiful old house! We will be back.
Even in rain, we like it. Look at all the green.

The little children's bed is one we found in the flea market. It's perfect for Frida Viola and it's a much better match for the old house than the not too pretty travel cot we have been using so far.

in balance

We like it up here. All of us. And we wish we could stay here for a couple of weeks more. When I sit here on the front porch with my coffee, and Molly next to me in her baby swing, Copenhagen is far far away. The past couple of days have been so much in balance, and we're already looking forward to the summer vacation. I know it's a cliché, but things just work better, when you have time for each other.

change of scene

Yesterday in Copenhagen, today up here. Ohh, we are so lucky, I know, to have this place. This wonderful old house that brings us away from everything and after some days makes us long to go back home again. We arrived yesterday very late in the night, and we woke up to a veritable summer day. We have been outside all day, we even had our dinner outside by the bonfire.

1. First one of today's many little bouquets - forget-me-not.
2. From the thrift store today - Frida Viola found an irresistible lace skirt that she just had to own. She feels very much like Madicken from Astrid Lindgren's stories about "Meg of June Hill".
3. Good morning beautiful new view.
4. Pile.
5.+6. She made us a dance performance.
7. And A made a fire and we had dinner outside.

We have been listening to Carolina Chocolate Drops today - perfect music for these settings.

It was such a good day.

Bib for Molly

Molly was lucky to win the nice little Bib from fine little day's giveaway. It came in perfect timing today since Molly is getting her molar teeths at the moment :) I think it looks cute both as a bib and as a little scarf. All the banadas from Bib are in beautiful Liberty fabric and with a soft inner side in corduroy.

Thanks to fine little day and Bib!

Šakotis

Our sweet neighbors are originally from Lithuania. They brought us this fantastic Šakotis when they came back from a trip to their native country. I didn't know about Šakotis before but it's a traditional Lithuanian cake baked over a fire while the dough is gradually poured onto a rotating stick.

It looks like a beautiful snow covered pine and it tastes delicious. Šakotis means "tree with many branches". Very poetic.

Sabine Finkenauer

Very hard no to completely fall in love with the works by German-Spanish artist Sabine Finkenauer.

sprouting

Look at the summer flowers we sowed in the backyard less than 2 weeks ago. You know that I'm still dreaming of a house at the countryside with a big garden. What we do in the backyard is very limited and simple - but still a little wonder each year. And the Vietnamese pho-soup is with the basil from the windowsill that has now come up for real.

Grow my first ever veg garden for city kids looks like a nice project.

Hope your weekend was good!
