More Inger & Lasse Sandberg

There is so much talk about book shops closing down in the Danish medias right now. Often old, family run book shops that have existed for decades. Of course I think it's such a shame - I love book shops and especially the smaller, personal ones. On the other hand I do know it's part of a development that is hard to avoid with more and more printed matter being converted into digital versions. Which I also really sympathize with and see all the advantages in. I guess my mind is very mixed on this topic - and so far I cannot imagine myself reading stories to my kids on an iPad.

Today I went to a little local book shop for the last time - it's closing down and the owner had emptied the basement for all the good stuff hiding down there. They were selling the last titles very cheap and I was so happy to find three of Inger and Lasse Sandberg's stories about Tommel (the thumb). They are from 1980 and very typical for that time - but the stories are no less droll and whimsical than all Inger and Lasse Sanberg's books, and we love to read them.

See more Inger and Lasse Sandberg here and here.

Waiting for summer

We are still waiting for the summer that doesn't really seem to come for real this year.
So this is what we do while we are waiting: Reading lots of Astrid Lindgren stories in preparation for this year's visit in Pippi land, eating salads every day - this one was particularly good with new potatoes, radishes, apples, roasted almonds, fresh goat cheese, lettuce, raspberry vinegar and olive oil. We haven't had that many ice creams this year but the crochet one from Shirley Bredahl is a favourite in Frida Viola's kitchen.

We are looking forward to swimming in the sea (and in the Swedish lakes!), sitting outside until late, finding wild berries in the forrest, visiting lots of flea markets and forgetting about time.

Midsummer Joy

Ohh, what a wonderful weekend! We visited some friends at their lovely place for a couple of days to celebrate midsummer with them. They live in a beautiful old house near the sea. The kids have been playing, playing, playing. The grown ups have been talking, talking, talking. We had this summer's last rhurbarb crumble, fish from the sea and tiny little wild strawberries. Couldn't imagine a better way to spend a weekend.

From the bookshelves # 01

Some favourites from our bookshelves. Not new books, but books I keep returning to for some reason or another. We like books. A because he makes them himself. And also because he likes reading.

I like reading a good story too, but I love books mainly because I love pictures, I guess.

1. Country Quilts.
2. Louise Lawler And Others.
3. Brooklyn Modern.
4. Country Quilts.
5. Designerhjem.

If you need summer inspiration this is a nice place to find it.

Toys for different ages

You may have noticed that I have a soft spot for toys. I play as much with it as the kids, in my own way, though.

Amimono - Daffodil

My mom's aunt has knitted this beautiful amimono cardigan in sky coloured highland wool. It's a maternity gift from my mom, and it's perfect for breast feeding (and our so far cold summer!). The colour isn't just grey but has lots of nuances in it - blue, green, violet, pink - exactly like the sky, which the photos doesn't justify at all.

Isn't the back of it beautiful?

More amimono designs here and here.
